Bahro Suryoyo is finally back – the most well-known magazine for our people, first published already in 1979. For many years, Bahro was a printed magazine distributed all over the world, to homes and subscribers longing to read about our history, our people, and our issues – in our own languages and others.
Today, in a new era, Bahro Suryoyo returns as a vibrant, relevant, and engaging online magazine, open and accessible to everyone, no matter where in the world you are.
Bahro Suryoyo is needed now more than ever!
We live in a time when the Syriac/Aramean people are fighting for survival.
Our language, history, and culture are under constant threat – both in our ancestral lands and in the diaspora.
That is why we need our own platforms where our voices can be heard, where we ourselves can tell the stories of our lives, our struggles, our successes, and our dreams.
Bahro Suryoyo is one of the few voices carrying the perspective of our people, and therefore, it is crucial that we together keep the magazine alive and relevant.
It is a place for knowledge, debate, culture, and identity, where young and old can meet, inspire, and learn from each other.
Our Common Platform – for the Future
The Syriac Federation of Sweden (SRF) and the Syriac Aramean Youth Federation (SAUF) have together taken on the responsibility to continue running Bahro Suryoyo, in close cooperation with an editorial team that volunteers to review, publish, and develop the magazine.
But for Bahro to stay alive, we need you!
We are looking for people who want to write, share opinions, analyze, tell stories, and contribute.
Do you want to join?
- Do you have a column or opinion piece inside you?
- Do you want to write about our people’s history, culture, politics, or daily life?
- Do you have a personal story you want to share?
- Would you like to be part of the editorial team and influence the content?
Whether you want to write regularly or occasionally, Bahro is your platform.
All articles will be published in both Swedish and English, so that we reach people in Sweden and across the world.
Together, We Keep Our Voice Alive
Our people have a long and proud history – but if we don’t tell it ourselves, it risks being silenced.
Bahro Suryoyo shall be the place where we exist, are heard, and are seen – without adjusting to others, without compromising on our identity.
A place where the young can read about their roots, and the elders can share their wisdom.
A place where our news and issues are at the center, and where we together build a future based on knowledge, unity, and pride.
“Bahro” means “the light” in Syriac/Aramaic – let that light never fade!
